Lauren Young scared of joining beauty contests

Although she is a looker herself,  Lauren Young doesn’t want to follow in the footsteps of her older sister,  the Philippines’ bet to the Miss World pageant this year.

“I’m scared of joining beauty contests,” Lauren admits.  “Natatakot ako na matalo. My sister won the first time she joined a pageant.”

The heat, in other words, is too much, and Lauren wants none of it. Lauren thinks she  has to get it right the first time as well.

So she’d rather focus on proving herself as an actress.

Good thing GMA 7 agrees.  The Kapuso network cast Lauren in the lead role as an incoming freshman college student who answers for her schoolmate’s sudden death in the new horror weekend series “Dormitoryo.”

The project is Lauren’s first in the suspense-thriller genre and she is confident she can play the role well.

“It helps that I get easily scared in real life.”

The Culinary Arts student refuses to accept that she plays the lead role in the new series.  Lauren insists her young co-stars -- Joyce Ching,  Winwyn Marquez, Ruru Madrid and Enzo Pineda – are just as important to the success of “Dormitoryo.”

Winwyn’s role – that of a student who dies in the dormitory Lauren’s character  is staying in – is pivotal.

“You don’t know if she called herself or the death was accidental. May sikretong lalabas in every episode (which airs Sundays starting Sept. 22),” states Lauren.
