Karylle treasures long-time friendship with Christian

“We started together so long ago that whatever we have is already there and it will never change.”

This is what Karylle said about her friendship and working relationship with Christian Bautista. Both have appeared together in shows and stage plays and the recent run of “The Kitchen Musical,” a Pan Asian TV series, which they shot in Singapore.

While choosing to stay mum about her relationship with Spongecola frontman Yael Yuzon, Karylle said that her friendship with Christian does not affect her personal relationship and vice versa.

“Malayong-malayo or matagal na yung pinagsamahan (namin ni Christian). Anything that happens to my life just adds to it as color, but it will never affect,” Karylle said at the press conference of her and Christian’s first major concert, “Love and Laughter,” which will be held at Newport Performing Arts and Theater in Resorts World on Feb. 29.

Before “The Kitchen Musical,” both artists were onstage in “West Side Story.”

Almost a love team

Practically a love team, as they’ve been paired up so often, Karylle and Christian first met when the latter joined the ABS-CBN singing competition, “Star in a Million.”  Karylle recalls seeing “a very, very skinny guy.” She is happy that Christian has become a bonafide hit in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

“Just to see him become the Asian sensation he is today, na-experience ko first hand kasi I’m always curious about how famous he is in Indonesia. And when we arrived at the airport, I can hear young people shouting and running behind us. Para siyang isang prinsipe doon,” Karylle shared.

Once courted Karylle

At the press conference, Christian admitted that he had once courted Karylle, but she was in no rush to get into a relationship at the time.

"Hindi naman sa hindi in-accept,” Karylle says. “But that was the time of my life when people were telling me, 'Date guys, take your time.’”

She was also reluctant to ruin their friendship by turning up the heat on their relationship.

"Para lang, for me, what we had was so special, I didn't want to rush into anything. It’s not the time to rush, especially with a broken heart,” Karylle said.

Her fave things about Christian

When asked what she likes about Christian, “His abs and dancing skills,” Karylle said in jest.

Turning serious, she replied, “His love for his family.  It's something very, very obvious. How close they are na magkakapatid.  And that's something admirable about the guy,” she said.

“Love and Laughter” is produced by Resorts World, in cooperation with Ultimate Entertainment and Stages Talents.
