Jonah Hill 'Overwhelmed' By 'Moneyball' Supporting Actor Nomination

A few years ago, Jonah Hill played everyone's go-to sidekick in comedies like "Get Him to the Greek" and "Superbad," but from Tuesday, he is forever known as an Oscar nominee.

"I feel like I'm in a dream still," Jonah told Access Hollywood on Tuesday, just a short while after learning he had picked up a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work opposite Brad Pitt in "Moneyball." "I didn't sleep all night and then I watched it on TV and I've just been on the phone ever since... I'm really, really overwhelmed, I can't believe that this is my life right now."

Jonah made the successful leap from comedy to drama with baseball film and he's pleased that Oscar voters recognized his performance.

"To me, it's really amazing, because I think there's very few actors -- you know, Tom Hanks, Robin Williams -- I mean two of the most legendary ones to successfully transition from comedy to drama, being able to do both, and you know the fact that it is my second drama," an excited Jonah said. "And to get nominated for an Academy Award for it just gives me encouragement to keep making more dramas."

Brad reached out to Jonah on Tuesday morning, congratulating his fellow nominee.

"He just said he's really proud and excited and I felt the same way, you know," Jonah recounted, referring to Brad's Best Actor nomination. "And I loved '[The] Tree of Life,' his other film that got him nominated for Best Picture.

"Excuse me," Jonah added, pausing. "I'm very overwhelmed."

Comic actors are often the best actors, but usually they're too typecast for that to be clear.

      Can you say over-exposed?

Happy for him. I think it's awesome that he's nominated for this.

He's popular because the media says he is.......it's like Politics....people care about what they are told to care about.

Agree! He an obnoxious spoiled kid. He didn't earn or pay his dues. This kid is best friends with Dustin Hoffman's son. Dustin helped him out every step of the way, this idiot won the lottery. Go away Jonah!!!

To not find Jonah Hill funny you must be extremely impaired in the sense of humor department. He is grossly overweight and not particularly It says a lot for his level of talent that his on-screen personality is so adorable that it moves him over into the do-able category.

Jonah Hill is in another line of Jewish actors, which is why he is overexposed and overrated. He is better than Seth Rogan who doesn't even act. All he does is yell and cuss every-other-word.

He did a great job in the film, but he didn't deserve the Oscar nomination. There were definitely actors who deserved it more.

I'm genuinely happy for this guy.... you can see the growth of his career, and that what makes his nomination even cooler...he wasn't a fly by night actor, who lucked up on a movie, got a nod, and you never hear from them again.... He's one of those guys that you can say... "Hey, I remember when he did that one movie 10 years ago... now look at him" gives the schlubbs of america hope, :-)

Helps to grow up next to Dustin Hoffman. He wasn't a shlubb who earned his way, he knocked on his neighbors door and asked can you put in a movie.
      • S.E. Entertainment 3 months ago
either way...he's still a schlubb... whether or not Dustin Hoffman was his neighbor....

Steven, that is completely wrong. He didn't grow up next to Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman's kids saw Hill performing a one man show in a new york bar and thought he was funny and introduced him to their father. Hoffman then got him an audition for I heart huckabees.

I thought he did a great job in the movie and I thought he out shined Brad Pitt.
Was hoping he would get the nomination.

Hope he gets it...I agree with Clara...he did out shine Pitt...

Jonah Hill is an awesome actor. He is consistently hilarious and he isn't all stuck up like a lot of Hollywood actors. Russell Brand is a douchebag, so there is no comparing the two. I'm glad he and Melissa got nominated, since the Oscars are usually big, drama-drenched smooze fests.

Yours is THE dumbest comment i have ever read dudes a toad and acts like a worm from your comment he has less talent than you have teeth!
      • Maria 3 months ago
Well, I have all my teeth, so that's actually quite complimentary.
    • SteRed  •  Houston, United States  •  3 months ago
I'm glad he was nominated, I always liked his acting even in "Accepted" I thought he did great work even though it was a comedy and meant to be stupid/funny.

It shows ya, anyone can act! He's overwhelmed? When you have Dustin Hoffman mapping out your career, its pretty hard to mess it up! How much cash they fork over to get this nomination? Hollywood should be ashamed today! Absolutely disgusting.

That was a good movie... Micheal Cerra has failed to make much of a change. The Arrested Development movie is only going to help him get more type-casted.
    • Jay  •  3 months ago
It'd be like Russell Brand getting nominated for an Oscar.
