Jodie Foster insists Mel Gibson doesn’t behave like a “movie star”.
The 48-year old actress stars alongside the Hollywood actor in black comedy The Beaver, which Jodie also directed.
The American star claims Mel, who was arrested for driving under the influence and making anti-Semitic remarks in 2006, is sometimes misunderstood. Jodie says the star is one of her most trusted friends and rises above the superficial world of Hollywood.
“Just start from zero. He’s a really loyal and trustworthy person, just a really good friend and not full of sh*t. He’s not a movie star, he’s not a celebrity. He’s a complicated person,” she explained in an interview with Psychologies magazine. “I don’t have particular friendships with any other actors. There are some people I’ve known for years and who I like, but not like this. This is a really deep friendship. But you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in Hollywood who doesn’t like Mel.”
Jodie credits her “deep” friendship with Mel to them both being good communicators. The star says she can instantly strike up a conversation with Mel, 55, even if they haven’t seen each other for a long time.
“We are talkers, both of us. We have that touch with each other where it doesn’t matter how many years go by or what time of the morning it is, we can talk to each other,” she added.
