Jason Wu’s new website includes a section where people can see how his pieces are made.
The designer is looking forward to seeing how his new online presence is viewed by fans and the industry. He is keen to go the extra mile and show why his collections differ from the clothing found on the high street, which is why he came up with the idea for a section on the site about craftsmanship.
“I want to tell our story in a deeper way. Unless you come to the showroom, you don’t see all the work that goes into one garment,” he explained to WWD.
“With today’s fast fashion, it’s important to give people reasons why we are a luxury brand. I want them to see how laces are embroidered, or that what looks like ruffles from afar are actually 50 clusters of hand-sewn flowers.”
The website also has three handbags which are only available to purchase online. Jason thought carefully about how he wanted the site to work, and thinks it will be a good way to learn what kind of pieces people want and the sort of things they have lost interest in.
“This gives us the opportunity to curate our own boutique,” he explained “It’s a way to explore new ideas — small leather goods, key chains — and get direct feedback.”
