Janice De Belen Admits Feeling Awkward With Role In New Series

MANILA, Philippines-She has played all kinds of roles in her career, from one raped by a refrigerator to one hassled by tiyanaks, but Janice de Belen considers her character in her current TV series as one of the trickiest there is for any actor to take on.

On "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," Janice is wife to the character played by singer-actor Ariel Rivera, who happens to be her real-life brother-in-law.

On "TV Patrol" Oct. 11, the actress admitted feeling awkward with the situation at first.

"But, you know, as actors you need to get past all those things. Kasama yon sa trabaho eh," she said of playing lovey dovey on cam with the husband of her sister, Gelli de Belen.

Another challenge for Janice is being a "maldita" person in the series----far different from who she is off cam, and even from most of the goody-two shoes roles she had played in the past.

"For the longest time lagi na lang mabait [yung mga roles ko], but the thing, you need to explore to find something kasi importante sa artista yung machallenge ka eh."

A drama, "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" is loosely based on the 1979 film of the same title. According to pre-publicity write-ups, the series focuses on the lives of those in high society.

The stars of the series are Kim Chiu and Xian Lim (who reunite after "My Binondo Girl" that started their love team), Maja Salvador and Enchong Dee. Janice plays supporting character, Beatrice Marasigan.

Prior to "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," Janice appeared on "Budoy" and "Showbiz Inside Report." She burst into the scene as child actress way back in the '70s via the TV show "Kool!!!" though it was in "Flordeluna" that she gained renown.
