Indies rule 9th Enpress Golden Screen Awards

Independent films ruled the Entertainment Press Inc.’s 9th  Golden Screen Awards at Teatrino, Greenhills on Saturday, March 24, when they won most of the awards, including  Best Actress and Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Picture and Best Director.

Jean Garcia won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- Drama award for playing a dance teacher in the independent film "Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa."

"Ipagpatuloy natin ang paggawa ng makabuluhang paggawa ng pelikula," Jean said in her speech.

Eugene Domingo, fresh from her win in the 6th Asian Film Awards, bagged the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- Musical or Comedy  for her performance in "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank."

"Sa lahat ng pagtyatyaga, lahat ay binibiyayaan. Let us all keep our faith sa kakayahan ng mga artistang Pilipino at mga manunuod na Pilipino," Eugene said in her speech.

Aga Muhlach scored his second win for the movie "In the Name of Love," for which he bagged the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role-Drama award.

The Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Comedy honors was a tie between Edgar Allan Guzman and Martin Escudero for "Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me" and  “Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington” respectively.

"Niño" stars Art Acuña and Sharmaine Buencamino won the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards respectively.

The independent film "Niño" was named Best Motion Picture-Drama while “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” won the Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy  honors.

Nora Aunor accepted the Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement Award presented to her by  daughter Matet de Leon and Eugene.

John Lapus, whose four costume changes spiced up the event, hosted the show.

Best in Production Design: Fritz Silorio, Mona Soriano and Ronaldo Cadapan  for "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story"
Best Editing: Ike Veneracion for "Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank"
