Troian Bellisario, who plays  straight-A student and overachiever Spencer Hastings in the American thriller-drama “Pretty Little Liars”  has high expectations about the Philippines after  co-stars Lucy Hale and Shay Mitchell told her “awesome things” about the country.

“They told me that the fans are amazing, which is really cool. They said that I’m going to have a blast. There are many beautiful beaches, beautiful things to see. People are warm and kind.”

The Hollywood TV actress, who is in Manila for the first time with boyfriend, “Suits” actor Patrick Adams, met with the local press on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Mariott Hotel.

On her character Spencer

Troian describes Spencer as her “younger version” because they have a number of similarities.

“I’m a very anxious person like how Spencer is. I’m also perfectionist. We both care immensely for our friends. The main difference between Spencer and I are life experiences. I was very much like Spencer when I was in high school, super academic and freaked out about everything, grew up a little bit and learned to chill out,” the 27-year-old actress said.

Troian shares that she's also as nurturing as Spencer.

“I’m definitely like the mama hen of the group, which is so Spencer of me. I like making sure that everybody’s okay. I’m the kind of person that if you come for advice, I’ll definitely sit down and do everything that I can,” she said.

Playing  a high school student at her age is an “interesting push and pull” for Troian.

“It’s really fun to play Spencer because it’s like looking back on who I was then. Having sympathy for that person because I’ve put so much pressure on myself.”

Troian and Patrick never compete with each other even if they’re in the same field. In fact, their relationship is as strong as ever.

No ego clashes

“I think what happens to a lot of people is when they get to a certain point in their career and their egos clash, like ‘Who’s more famous?’ For both of us, it’s just a surprise that we land on such amazing shows. We’re just there for each other and respect it in a way that’s not competitive,” Troian said.

Being in the same business is a plus for her and Patrick, since it helps them understand each other’s job. While Troian jokingly admits watching Patrick’s intimate scene with “Suits” co-star Meghan Markle is “not the most pleasurable” thing to do, she has nothing against her boyfriend’s female co-star.

“We joke about it a lot. I think it’s great that when you’re dating an intelligent actor, you understand that it’s just a job. I love Meghan Markle, she’s a sweetheart,” she said.

Is there a downside to having a high-profile  relationship?

“People have this idea of our relationship. Like when we got on vacation together, we apparently got engaged three times. It was weird because my family was calling me, like ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ I said, ‘Because it’s not true!’ So, that’s the hardest thing for us because people are taking it and running with it in a way that’s not real,” Troain replied.

“Pretty Little Liars” airs Saturdays, 8 p.m. on ETC. Its season 3 finale airs on March 23.
