Heart talks about marriage

At 27, Heart Evangelista said she has learned to put her foot down and become more independent, just like her character in the primetime drama “Legacy.”

“I have to learn how to say no, I have to learn how to put my foot down. Eventually, pag wala na yung mga taong tumutulong sa akin, I have to learn how to survive on my own,” the Kapuso actress said.

Does this mean she’s ready to settle down any time soon?

“I don’t want to get married any time soon,” Heart told members of the press on the set of the Kapuso primetime show in San Mateo, Rizal last Friday, March 23.

What if her boyfriend of over a year, model-actor Daniel Matsunaga, already wants to tie the knot?

“Hindi pwede. Hindi pa talaga,” she said. “Hindi pa ako finished.”

Asked what she still wants to accomplish before settling down, Heart said: “Hindi ko ma-explain e. But in a relationship, it has to get to a point where there’s nothing to argue about. Everybody argues but basic things, you don’t have to argue about.”

Heart added she’ll know when she’s ready to settle down. “And at this point, I don’t know yet,” she said.

‘No assurances’

Daniel has been in Brazil for a month now due to medical reasons — not because he’s receiving death threats, according to Heart.

“Papa-opera siya, meron siyang parang… hindi siya makahinga nang maayos kaya may tatanggalin (sa ilong niya),” she said. “Matagal ng may ganun siya.” Heart added Daniel will return to the country this month and that they constantly communicate via internet messaging and emails. “Kaya importante ang Wi-Fi (sa amin),” she quipped.

Despite the distance, Heart said their relationship is still “normal.”

“Kasi wala naman kaming bawalan e. Pag andito siya, I do my thing. So hindi naman masyadong nag-change (ang relationship),” she said.

Does it affect her when she hears rumors or talks that their relationship is on the rocks?

“Wala, ganun talaga e. Hindi rin naman perfect ang isang relationship, di ba? Hindi ko talaga alam kung mage-end ba ito o magla-last ba ito. So hindi ako masyadong ano sa (tsismis na) on the rocks kasi kung on the rocks kami sa totoong buhay, then okay. Pero kung hindi, mas okay din,” she explained.

The actress added that she’s currently in a situation wherein she has few expectations.

“Hindi rin naman kasi biro na maghanap ng life-time partner so there are really no assurances in life,” she said. “Kung mag-work, e di finally. Kung hindi, then I wish you all the best.”

Passionate again

Daniel’s temporary absence allowed Heart to bond with “Legacy” co-stars Lovi Poe and Alessandra de Rossi who she says are now her close friends.

Of course, she’s also happy with her show’s good performance in the ratings game.

“Before the show, medyo gulo-gulo yung isip ko, ganyan. Pero ngayon, ayoko na talagang mag-end (yung show),” she said.

Heart further said, “Parang bumalik na ulit yung hilig ko, passionate na ulit ako, tapos ang clo-close pa naming nina Lovi, nina Alex. Tapos ang taas pa ng rating. Nakakatuwa.”

“Legacy” airs weeknights after “Biritera” on GMA-7.
