Google+ trends: Warp Drive a possibility?
On Tuesday, September 18, Google+ users are getting excited about NASA's new project which, theoretically at least, could allow us to cross vast distances in space in a very short amount of time.
Borrowing from Star Wars and making reference to the famous top speed of the Starship Enterprise, Google+ users are sharing news of NASA's project with the hashtag "#WarpDrive."
Writing on Icarus Interstellar, a blog dedicated to interstellar travel, NASA scientist Dr. Harold "Sonny" White talks about manipulating loopholes in mathematical laws to create a "time warp" allowing spaceships to travel vast distances in a matter of weeks rather than thousands of years. Also causing a buzz on Google+ is a controversial cover of the magaine Newsweek that featured the headline "Muslim Rage." The inflammatory nature of the cover was quickly seized upon by social networkers who made it the subject of parodies and a stream of jokes at Newsweek's expense. The hashtag "#Tolerance" is also related to the controversy surrounding Newsweek's cover.
