Google+ trends: Roger Federer claims Wimbledon crown, Ernest Borgnine dies

Swiss tennis player Roger Federer has beaten Britain's Andy Murray in four sets to win his seventh Wimbledon title and 17th Grand Slam title.

The win puts him on par with tennis greats Pete Sampras and William Renshaw -- the only two other tennis players to have won the Wimbledon title seven times -- and sees him regain his world number one ranking for the first time in two years.

“The champ is back on top!!” say Google+ users. “Congratulations Roger Federer, Commiserations to Andy who fought a great battle.”

American actor Ernest Borgnine has died aged 95. Borgnine was best known for his roles in the action series Airwolf and animated TV show SpongeBob Squarepants, and for his portrayal of the kindly butcher in the film Marty.

Google+’ers paid tribute to the Oscar-winning actor, saying, “Airwolf was a huge part of my childhood. Sorry to hear that Ernest Borgnine has passed away. RIP.”, “Goodbye Ernest Borgnine. Best character actor ever. We shall always have Airwolf” and “another wonderful actor is gone. R.I.P. Earnest Borgnine.”
