Golden Globes hair tutorials: over-the-shoulder curls

Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez all rocked a glamorous sweep of hair over one shoulder at this year's Golden Globes awards in Los Angeles. Here are three methods you can follow for a gorgeous over-the-shoulder look.

Option 1 - Pins

Celebrity hair stylist Angelo David loved the look. Yes, it's big on glamour, but for those with busy schedules "it's a simple five minute job. It's an easy look to go to work in and meet a friend or a date," he says.

All you'll need is some bobby pins, hairspray and the right brush. The hair is smoothed back with the brush so it rests behind the ear. As you work your way around, pin the hair as you go. Using a curling iron as a hot wand, tousle the hair to the front and fix the hair with spray.

Option 2 - Braid

Stylist Jessica Liparoto had an another option that uses a plait behind the head to help hold the hair in place and add an interesting detail "to create a little bit of drama."

After sweeping the hair over one shoulder, braid the hair around the back off of the neck, making the braid as tight or as loose as you like. You can precurl naturally straight hair to give it a bit of wave. Then you just secure the braid with a bobby pin.

Option 3 - Hidden

Hair blogger Lilith Moon has another technique that creates a seamless look with no visible bobby pins. It's a "natural, flattering look" that's perfect for red carpets.

Pulling the hair around your neck and over the shoulder, pin it up to hold the side-sweep in place. To cover the pins, use a teasing brush to separate some hair from the top of your head and bring it down over the bobby pins, then fix this in place with another bobby pin that can be tucked away under the fall of the hair.
