Filipino artists bring back the 90s

Fans of the 90s music, rejoice!

On January 13 and 14, Chicosci, Franco, Solenn Heusaff, Richard Poon and Nyoy Volante are set to take their fans back to the world of 90s hitmakers such as Lisa Loeb, Cranberries, Paula Cole and Radiohead.

Concerts at the Eastwood Central plaza on Jan. 13 and at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill on Jan. 14 are being staged to launch the album “90s Music Comes Alive.”

    Urbandub plays Madonna

In the new compilation, rock band Chicosci covers EMF’s hit “Unbelievable,” which was also covered by acts as diverse as Tom Jones and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Urbandub, on the other hand, provides a different feel to Madonna’s “This Used To Be My Playground,” which was the theme song of the movie “A League of Their Own.”

Franco revives “Fake Plastic Trees’ of the Brit alterna-demigods Radiohead. Tanya Markova also covers the Radiohead single, “Creep.” Fans of the teen TV show “Dawson’s Creek” will definitely reminisce as December Avenue covers Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Wanna Wait.”

Another 90s hit, “Linger,” by the Cranberries, is covered by Miguel Escueta. Acoustic singer Nyoy Volante gives a unique rendition of Indigo Girls’ “Power of Two,” while sisters Krissy and Ericka sings Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.”

Natalie Imbruglia by way of Solenn

Multi-slashie Solenn Heusaff covers Natalie Imbruglia’s 90s hit, “Torn,” while multi-platinum crooner Richard Poon covers the Lou Bega’s LSS hit, “Mambo No. 5.”

Other covers from the album are The Lamars’ rendition of “Someday,” Sabrina’s cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain” and Toto Sorioso’s cover of Lisa Loeb’s “Stay.”

There will also be a merchandising event at the concert by Bravado, which is also under MCA Music. “90s Music Comes Alive” is now out in CDs at leading record stores.
