'The Expendables 2' climbs back to the top of the box office

Brought down from its pedestal by Batman during the first week of September, The Expendables 2 is back at the top of the global box office, according to Rentrak.

Grossing $18.75 million in 23 countries from September 7 to 9, The Expendables 2 relegated former box office champ The Dark Knight Rises to third place with earnings of $16.285 million, despite that film's being screened in 65 countries.

The Bourne Legacy, the first chapter of the rebooted saga with Jeremy Renner in the title role, came in second place with $17 million in 49 countries.

Horror flick The Possession stayed in fourth place with $13 million, boosted by its first place in the US, where it earned $9.5 million over the weekend.
