Erich opens up on non-showbiz boyfriend

Although Erich Gonzales believes a proposal from her non-showbiz boyfriend is far from her future, the Kapamilya actress said she is “hoping and praying” that he's “the one”.

“Sino ba naman ang gusto na kung sino yung ngayon, play-play time lang? For me, I don’t think that’s nice,” she told members of the press on the set of her upcoming show “Juan dela Cruz.”

Erich has been with her 32-year-old non-showbiz boyfriend for almost two years now. She added that they  started out as friends. This, Erich said, is one of the reasons why they’ve lasted this long together.

“It’s cool nga because he’s not only my boyfriend, he’s my best friend. Parang buddy-buddy lang, I can talk to him. Cool lang. Hindi lang yung parang romance lang,” Erich explained. “Ang maganda sa relationship namin, magkaibigan talaga kami. We started out as friends and doon nabuo yung foundation kaya we’re strong.”

The “Juan dela Cruz” star also said, “I don’t think we will last this long kung puro (romance) lang kami.”

That Erich can be herself with her boyfriend is also a plus.

“Kapag kaibigan mo yung tao, hindi mo kailangan magtago. Same with him. Suporta ako sa ginagawa niya. Sobrang  laking bagay nung patience, understanding, and trust,” she said.

Erich also further shared: “Ang laki ng nashare niya in my life.”

10-year age gap

Does their age gap pose as a problem? Her boyfriend is 32, while the Kapamilya actress is only 22.

Erich said “it’s better” that her boyfriend is older. “I don’t think yung mga ka-age ko ngayon can handle me.”

“Hindi naman natin mapipili kung sino ang gusto nating mahalin. We’ve been friends and then, ayun, syempre yung mga ganyang bagay pinagdarasal din yan,” she added.

Perhaps one can attribute the age gap to the maturity of their relationship. Erich said her boyfriend isn’t the jealous type and fully supports her showbiz endeavors.

“Wala naman po siyang dapat ipagselos. And he knows my work and alam na niya yung trabaho ko, priority ko talaga.”

‘Feeling action star’

“He’s very supportive and andyan lang siya. Pag meron movies, magpapa-block screening siya kasama ng mga friends namin. Kumbaga, incognito lang.”

Of course, her boyfriend is supportive of her latest television project. Erich stars with Coco Martin in ABS-CBN’s “Juan dela Cruz.”

This time, she plays a grittier role as Rosario—a contrast to the typical soap opera lass she played in “Maria La Del Barrio.”

“Bihira kang makakakita ng babaeng gumagawa ng fight scenes. So  that’s something to look forward to kasi nakakagawa ako ng iba naman,” she said of her role. “Fumi-feeling action star lang.”

Besides the fight scenes, Erich is excited to work with Coco, who she worked with in the independent film “’Noy” in 2010.

“We always see him as serious. And now, in this teleserye, makikita mo yung makulitan at kapilyuhan niya. So that’s something na nakaka-excite po,” Erich said of the Kapamilya actor.
