Enrique: No sexy image for now
After going shirtless in a fashion show for a women’s magazine last year, Enrique Gil now wants to maintain a young, wholesome image and would rather wait for the right time before accepting daring projects.
Enrique impressed many female fans when he showed off his abs in the fashion show. But the 20-year-old actor said it’s not likely to happen again this year.
“Hindi na. Test lang iyon. Pwede pero mas gugustuhin ko na huwag na muna. As of now, wala muna. Na-pressure lang kasi kasi finale,” Enrique said in an interview with the press.
Right timing
He thinks going sexy will come at the right time and that a young, teenybopper image with age-appropriate projects especially for his many teenaged female fans is better.
“Siguro may time ulit doon, pero ngayon i-enjoy ko muna ang pa-tweetums kasi kapag medyo tumanda na, hindi ka na makakabalik sa pagpapa-tweetums.”
Despite his decision to shun the sexy route, Enrique admits he enjoyed last year’s fashion show and the crowd’s wild response.
"It’s an honor (to be part of that fashion show). Nag-enjoy ako ng sobra last year. The crowd was amazing, lahat sila sumisigaw. Gusto kong ulitin pero sabi ko mas okay na huwag muna.”
Enrique also shared that his home network, ABS-CBN and talent management companies Star Magic and Stages have nothing to do with his decision to avoid sexy projects.
“Wala silang sinabi. Naisip ko lang kasi sa tingin ko ay tama naman.”
Although he has been in showbiz only for a few years, Enrique has worked with various female celebrities like Kathryn Bernardo (his co-star in “Princess and I”), Julia Montes, and Jessy Mendiola.
Sarah and Anne
Among the local female artists he admires and wants to work with are Sarah Geronimo and Anne Curtis in the future.
“Si Sarah, napakagaling niyang performer. Siya ang best female performer dito sa Pilipinas para sa akin,” he said.
Enrique clarified that he only likes Sarah as an artist, not as a potential girlfriend.
“Hindi sa gusto (na in a romantic way). Wala lang, humahanga lang (ako sa kanya). Wow, ang galing! Kasi in-invite ako ni Ge (Gerald Anderson, Sarah’s suitor) sa premiere night nila, nanood ako. Magaling, magaling (si Sarah).”
Anne—whom he calls ‘dyosa’—is Enrique’s top celebrity crush.
“Pero pangarap lang iyon. Pero kasi dyosa siya, ‘di ba?,” Enrique said.
