Eddie Garcia, ‘Sta. Niña’ win international honors

Veteran actor Eddie Garcia and independent film “Sta. Niña” were big winners at the 55thAsia-Pacific Film Festival and 17th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), respectively.

Eddie bagged the best actor award for his performance in the independent film “Bwakaw” at the Asia-Pacific Filmfest held in Venetian Macau on Saturday, December 15. He played an old gay who takes care of the stray dog Bwakaw.

The film’s director Jun Lana announced Eddie’s victory on Twitter.
 
Lana tweeted, “Eddie Garcia just won Best Actor and got a stand ovation at the 55th Asia Pacific Festival in Macau! Congrats Tito Eddie! #BWAKAW.”
 
Eddie won the same award for “Bwakaw” at the Cinemalaya 2012 Festival . The indie film is the Philippines’ entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at  the upcoming 85thAcademy Awards.

Meanwhile, The Hindu website announced that the Cinemalaya entry “Sta. Niña,” directed by  Manny Palo, won the Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) award at the IFFK on Friday, December 14. “Sta. Niña” got the best feature film award and bested 13 other films from Asia, Latin America and Africa.

The film stars Anita Linda, Coco Martin and Alessandra de Rossi.
