Director Ruel Bayani says his Metro Manila Filmfest entry “One More Try” is better than “No Other Woman,” the critical and commercially-successful film he directed in 2011.

“The pressure is always there but I tell you, this is a better movie than “No Other Woman.” I will say this is my best movie so far,” he said at the press conference of “One More Try” at the ABS-CBN compound recently.

The film, which stars Angelica Panganiban, Angel Locsin, Dingdong Dantes and Zanjoe Marudo deals about saving a life and sustaining relationships.

“Parang nagulat ako na kaya niyang dumating sa buhay ko soon after “No Other Woman.” Both movies are special but I must say na noong binuo ko siya and then they will put 'a film by Ruel Bayani,' for the first time, saka lang ako pumayag. It’s the first time that I allowed it to be used kasi hindi ko siya gustong magamit, hindi ko lang feel na deserve ko ilagay iyon and I feel that this is the right movie to say that this is a film by Ruel Bayani,” he said.

The director feels honored to be part of this year’s “very esteemed” batch of entries and is confident “One More Try” can top the box-office race.

“Nakita ko na ang mga trailers, I must say what an honor to be in this very esteemed batch of entries. Andito na kami sa promo period ng festival at naniniwala kami at pinapanindingan namin ang aming mga pelikula at naniniwala kami this is the best movie. Bakit naman namin sasabibihin na we are second best?”

What are the chances of Angelica and Angel getting  best actress nods over heavy favorite Nora Aunor in the coming Metro Filmfest Awards night?

“Alam naman namin na kalaban nila si Ate Guy (Nora), kaya sabi ko, 'Lahat na gawin niyo, hindi naman maghuhubad si Ate Guy sa pelikula, sa sampalan, walang sampalan doon. Itodo niyo na, kabugan, sapakan,” he said in jest.

The director added, “Pero dahil sobrang professional nilang dalawa at napakahusay, paki-quote nyo ako, 'Yes, may laban si Angel at Angelica for best actress.”

He also dismissed talks that “One More Try” is inspired by the movie “My Sister’s Keeper.” The two films, he explained, are completely different. Although “One More Try” also touches on medical conditions, the director insists that its take on the modern Filipino family makes it unique.

“This is not a medical drama. Ang pinag-uusapan natin yung mga tao at paano sila naapketuhan nito. Kung meron mang sa ibang bansa na merong situation na kailangan gamutin, definitely maiiba ang interpretasyon kapag pinasok mo na yung konsepto ng Filipino family. So I would say na imposibleng may kamukha siyang movie,” Direk Ruel said.
