American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta is excited to show the actor in him before Filipino fans, who know him more as a singer.
In a presscon held this afternoon at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Archuleta, who is in the country for three weeks to film the mini-series “Nandito Ako” for TV5, said the experience is new to him. But since he is comfortable with Filipinos, for whom he has staged concerts thrice, he is looking forward to the experience.
In his blog, David revealed that “I’m nervous, but also really excited to try this new experience.”
“Most of the script will be in English,” he relates. That way, he adds, it will be easier for him to memorize the dialogues.
David will also be singing the theme of the series, which is based on Ogie Alcasid’s hit song.
Art imitates life
“I’m playing a part similar to who I am,” David says of his role, that of an international singer. The big difference, however, is David’s character is born to a Filipino mother he got separated from after a hotel fire tore them apart when he was only five years old.
David reports that the first thing he did upon arriving at the airport was “to meet Jasmine (Curtis Smith) and Eula (Caballero).”
“I’m looking forward to working with people my age (David is turning 22 in December),” he told the press.
But he refused to reveal just how much his talent fee will be, even if the press asked him about it twice.
Perci Intalan, TV5’s Head of Creative and Entertainment Production revealed that “Nandito Ako” will be shot in nearby provinces like Batangas, where David will see the beaches for the first time. And since he will be shooting daily, David will get to taste more Filipino food.
His favorite, at the moment is tokwa’t baboy and sisig.
Besides the food, David also recalls enjoying riding a jeepney for the first time.
“It was fun to see Disney characters,” he said, to the amusement of the members of the press.
Fan of Regine and Charice
He also revealed that he admires Regine Velasquez and Charice.
David will fly back to the US after doing the series to start his full-time missionary work for the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
But he would love to return to the Philippines.
“I would seriously want to come back to the Philippines,” he stressed.
And while he’s away, David will make sure Filipino fans will still feel his presence.
He will release new songs, “something I can leave with the people after I’m gone.”
David also plans to continue his education since “it is something that will be by your side in your life. It’s very valuable.”
