Crayon Pop Scores a Contract with Sony Music

Following a big Crayon Pop and Bar Bar Bar boom which swept Korea up in its silliness, Crayon Pop may be reaching out to the world this time.

The group recently signed an album licensing and partnership contract with Sony Music Entertainment Korea.

On August 13, Sony Music announced, "Late July, high-ranking Sony Music Entertainment officials met with Crayon Pop during their visit to Korea, and they were touched at the girls′ unique attempts and creativity. The contract was signed with a belief that the artist and content could succeed overseas."

Head CEO Hwang Hyun Chang of Chrome Entertainment, Crayon Pop′s agency, commented, "I believe our collaboration with the global album label Sony Music will act as an important turning point in Crayon Pop′s future, and we′re looking forward to where it will take us."

Crayon Pop debuted in 2012 aiming to appeal with its unique styles, which included school uniforms, Bruce Lee fashions and training suits. This year, it finally struck gold with its single Bar Bar Bar and its dances, spawning numerous parodies online. 44 days after its release, Bar Bar Bar went from unchartable to no. 1 on the music charts.

The group is currently working on a song to continue the boom started by Bar Bar Bar, and plans to showcase a more systematic set of promotions using Sony Music′s global network.

Sony Music holds Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Usher, Daft Punk and other giant pop stars, and has recently been attempting to dig up new global talents in K-Pop.
