Christian Slater has confirmed his engagement – and admitted he thought his fiancée was a lesbian when they first met.
The Hollywood star has been dating Brittany Lopez for several years and has announced they are getting married.
The actor opened up about their first meeting at a Miami resort, revealing he was sure she would have no interest in him.
“This girl came walking along with another lady, a slightly older lady,” he told US talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
“I was sitting in my usual spot, eating my oatmeal that morning - and this spot was famous for people proposing to each other - and the next thing I know she gets down on one knee and proposes to this older lady.”
Christian was so touched by the encounter her decided to talk to the pair. It was then that he realised his mistake.
“It turns out it was her aunt and she was just trying to help her aunt capture the beauty and the romance of the moment,” he giggled.
“She was making a joke, and I witnessed it, and it intrigued me, and the next thing I know we were hanging out in the Everglades.”
This will be Christian’s second marriage, following his 2007 divorce from Ryan Haddon. The pair have two children together.
The star hasn’t revealed any details about his planned nuptials.
