Chris O'Dowd: Pretty girls are rarely funny

Chris O'Dowd agrees with the claim that pretty girls can't be funny.

The actor appears in new hit comedy TV series Girls, which is written by and stars Lena Dunham. Chris was so impressed with the material Lena came up with that he's signed up to star in more episodes of the series in the future. While he appreciates the quality of Lena's comic writing he agrees in principle with the recent statement made by Joseph Gordon-Levitt that women cannot be sexy and funny at the same time.

"Her writing is so great, and I think this is a golden age for female comedy writers, it's a fun little part to play. I feel very lucky. [The Girls cast] they're all just lovely people; very open and collaborative," Chris told Grazia. "I think there's something in the fact that it's hard to be good looking and funny. You have to have an oddball quality; people have to sympathise with you to find you funny."

The star wed his long-time girlfriend Dawn Porter in August this year. The funny man joked that married life is similar to surviving a natural disaster.

"Getting married is kind of like we've been through an earthquake," he jested. "And we're the survivors. A really sexy earthquake."

Although the famously low-key couple seem very much in love, Chris admitted there is one woman who could tempt him to stray.

"Beyoncé is the most amazing woman in the world. Waaay before Dawn," he joked. "If Beyoncé looked at me twice I would forget Dawn's name."
