Despite the raves he received from most of the judges during his audition, Fil-Aussie Chris Cayzer failed to get a spot in the top 12 of the reality talent show “X Factor Australia” during its Wednesday, September 12 episode.
The 25-year-old Chris was not chosen by “X Factor Australia”judge and mentor Guy Sebastian to be part of three contenders of the show’s Over-25 category.
In “X Factor,” contestants are divided into four groups, each mentored by one of the show’s judges: Over-25, Groups, Under-25 boys and Under-25 girls. Sebastian chose Nathaniel Willemse, Justin Standley, and Samantha Jade as his contestants, eliminating Cayzer and two others.
“This is heartbreaking. I can't watch the no's. especially 'cause everyone at this stage is talented,” Sebastian tweeted about the eliminations on Wednesday.
What happened
While Chris managed to impress “X Factor Australia” judges Ronan Keating,’ Mel B, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte during his audition, Sebastian was critical of the Fil-Aussie right from the start.
“I think that you would have to grow up. I like you, but I think for you to be a superstar, you’d have to grow a lot,” he said.
The first “Australian Idol” winner remained skeptical of Chris during his performance for the show’s Boot Camp stage. Regardless, he managed to make it to the top 24.
Sebastian acknowledged being Chris’ mentor is “awkward”considering his earlier comments about his performances. Nonetheless, the former Philippine actor-singer managed to impress his mentor with his rendition of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” during the Judges’ Home Visit stage, where mentors trim their wards from six to three.
“Really nice,” he said of Chris’ performance.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make an “X Factor Australia” finalist.
Chris tweeted after the eliminations were announced: “Hey guys thanks for the support, X-Factor AU was so much fun. If anyone disagrees you can tweet @guysebastian:p lol peace!”
