Bea Alonzo sees herself as “living proof” that one can be successful in love and career.
“For the longest time, maniniwala na sana ako na mamimili ka kung career ba o love life. Kapag okay daw ang lovelife, walang career. Pero I’m a living proof na, okay, pwedeng magsabay,” Bea said at the press conference of the new ABS-CBN primetime series “A Beautiful Affair.”
She also credits boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo for making their relationship work despite their busy schedules as actors. While Bea is busy doing “A Beautiful Affair,” Zanjoe is working on the Metro Manila Filmfest entry “One More Try.”
“Alam mo, I’m very lucky na understanding yung boyfriend ko, si Z (Zanjoe). Siguro malaking bagay na pareho kaming artista, naiintindihan niya yung schedule ko. The more na hindi kami nagkikita, the more na mas nagiging sweet kami sa isa’t isa. May tamang pagkakataon para sa love,” Bea said.
She thinks their “low-profile” relationship is making their romance work. Bea shares that the secret is in knowing what to share to fans without disclosing too much about their relationship.
“As much as possible, may mga pribado kaming bagay na hindi sine-share sa public. Mayroon din naman kaming hindi ipinagdadamot sa public kasi they deserve to know about it kasi we’re public figures. Para kahit papaano, natututunan namin yung art of being private and being public na ine-enjoy namin.”
What about marriage?
Bea thinks it’s still too early for her and Zanjoe to talk about marriage, although she hopes he has found Mr. Right in him.
“Hindi naman ako pwedeng magsalita nang tapos dahil baka mamaya magkaproblema along the way... I could only wish na sana kami talaga hanggang sa dulo.”
Bea admitted that she was initially worried that she might not be able to differentiate her characters in “The Mistress” and “A Beautiful Affair,” which both involve love triangles. Both projects also pair her with John Lloyd Cruz, who is also celebrating the 10th year of his love team with Bea.
“Noong una, ang fear ko was mapag-differentiate ko talaga. Kasi when I was doing 'The Mistress,' we were also shooting 'A Beautiful Affair.' So, naiiisip ko na baka mahalo. Pero malaking bagay na we taped for seven days sa Vienna, so nakalimutan ko yung 'The Mistress' for awhile. When I saw the trailer, malaki yung difference and yung characters ni Sari (in 'The Mistress') and Genevieve (in 'A Beautiful Affair'). Dito, sheltered, si Genevieve. Si Sari naman she speaks her mind,” Bea said.
