Argentine rock legend Luis Alberto Spinetta dies

Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta

Luis Alberto Spinetta, one of Argentina's beloved home-grown rock legends, died of lung cancer on Wednesday, his children announced.

He was 62.

A songwriter, musician and poet, Spinetta passed away at home surrounded by children Dante, Valentino, Catarina and Vera, a family source told local media.

Spinetta, nicknamed Flaco (Skinny), played with groups such as Almendra and Pescado Rabioso and wrote hits including "Barro tal vez" ("Maybe clay"), "Maribel se durmio" ("Maribel dozed off") and "El anillo del capitan Beto (Captain Beto's Ring)."
