Singer April Boy Regino is cancer free.

The voice behind the hit “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” himself announced the good news in GMA 7’s “Startalk” last Saturday, December 21.

“Kaya ako nag-guest sa Startalk ngayon ay (para sabihihin) na ako ay cancer free.  Salamat sa Diyos at binigyan Niya ako ng panibagong buhay.”

He added that his  family’s prayers and a daily intake of pure barley have cured him of prostate cancer, which he initially hid from the public because he didn’t want people to pity him.

“Gusto ko, matapang ako, nakangiti, lumalaban, cancer free.”

But a  visibly-thinner April Boy repeated what he told  TV5 host Cristy Fermin in an earlier interview: he is bent on retiring.

“Ang payo ng doctor ay magpahinga na muna.”

Fatigue and sleepless nights, April Boy added, have taken a toll on his health, so he has to retire. But the good news is, April Boy adds, is that his son, JC Regino is following in his dad’s footsteps.  The younger Regino has signed up with MCA Music Inc.

This means that April Boy’s recent performance in Tacloban upon the invitation of soldiers based there,  was his last.

“Pumunta ako sa Tacloban to inspire other people don. Noong dumating ako,  tuwang tuwa sila.  Hindi niila alam na darating ako. Sikreto yon.”

The Taclobanons saw their idol giving away baseball caps the way he usually did in all his shows. That’s when they found out  for themselves, says the singer, that “malakas na uli si April Boy.”

As parting shot, April Boy thanked his fans for supporting him throughout his decades-long career.
