Alma quits Senate bid, says daughter

Alma Moreno, who is currently councilor of Paranaque City (and president of the 17,000-strong Councilors League of the Philippines), will no longer run for senator in the 2013 national elections. This was confirmed by her daughter (with former Paranaque Mayor Joey Marquez) Winwyn Marquez.

“Hindi na siya tatakbo as senator. Me and my siblings talked to her and she decided not to run anymore. We talked her out of this dream of hers because of health matters. Hindi na rin siya kasi kasing lusog as before. May mga sakit din siya, so sabi namin, huwag na lang,” Winwyn said in a recent interview.

The 5’ 7” tall, 20-year old Winwyn  prefers playing contrabida on TV (as in GMA’s “One True Love” which has been extended for five more weeks) though she also dreams of playing the lead role someday.

Winwyn she plays Marla, sister of Leila, portrayed by Agot Isidro, Carlos’ (Raymond Bagatsing) scheming wife.

Object of jeers

Playing a stubborn character has made Winwyn the object of jeers for some people who saw her in malls.

“Deep inside, I am glad with those sneering reactions. That proves that I am effective in handling my role. That’s why I love playing a bad girl role!” she admits.

The story behind Winwyn’s name is interesting.

“It was election time,” she recalled. “My Dad was a candidate for Paranaque mayor. I was about to be born then, and if my Dad lost, my nickname would have been ‘Loss-Loss,’ or something to that effect. But my Dad won, so I was named Winwyn!”

She did not join showbiz at once. “I had to finish my college course so that I would have a fallback,” she stressed. “My Dad was very strict with my studies. Before anything else, studies first.”

Winwyn took up marketing management at San Beda College. Then, she became an intern in a big company. Showbiz beckoned after.

Her parents reached the top of their respective showbiz careers. How about Winwyn?

Blazing her own trail

“I do not need to follow in my parents’ footsteps,” she said. “I have to blaze my own.”

Any boyfriend yet?

“None so far,” she replied. “Of course, I go dating, but only up to that.”

“One True Love” casts Alden Richards and Louise delos Reyes in the lead roles and is directed by Andoy Ranay.
