Ai Ai admits marriage is over
Less than a month after their civil wedding in Las Vegas on April 3, Ai Ai delas Alas and businessman Jed Salang have split up.
In an exclusive interview on “The Buzz” on Sunday, May 19, a devastated Ai Ai cried and told manager and host Boy Abunda that she ended her short-lived marriage on May 2.
The root of the problem started even before they tied the knot.

“May isa siya friend dati,” Ai Ai recalls. “Three months lang kami (noon). Siguro naawa siya sa akin, nakonsiyensiya siya (at sinabing) may balak si Jed na papatulan lang ako ni Jed and later on -- ayoko sabihin yung word -- tapos nagawa na niya yung bagay na 'yon iiwan niya ako at kakasamahin niya ay iba,”
According to Ai Ai, that other person is Jed’s ex. She added that she was able to confirm what she has been feeling from the very beginning but was afraid to face it because it was too painful. But she didn’t separate from him because she still loved Jed very much at that time.
The final straw came on May 2, the day when Jed, according to Ai Ai, wanted to celebrate their first monthsary in a casino and she refused.
“Ayoko mag-casino siya kasi hindi healthy sa kanya at hindi maganda para sa akin na nakikita ako sa casino.”
So she told Jed that she would rather stay at home or go to any hotel, except one where there is a casino, That’s when Jed got angry and their fight became physical.
“Hinagis niya ako sa kama. Tampalan. Bunuan,” Ai Ai relates.
And that’s when she decided to call it quits.
“Noong araw na 'yon, parang feeling ko, 'yung time na hinila niya ko sa sahig at kinaladkad niya ako, doon ko na-realize na hindi ko na kaya. Feeling ko kabibigay ko lang sa kanya ng makapagpapaligaya sa kanya. Binigyan ko siya ng kotse.”
Ai Ai asked herself what else Jed can do to her, now that she has given him everything.
Jed, meantime, became even angrier.
“Pinagbibintangan ko raw siya na magsusugal siya. Feeling ko, ano naman ang gagawin namin ng three days sa hotel casino? Doon nagsimula ang gigil niya sa akin,” says Ai Ai.
She relates that Jed pulled her and threw her on the bed. Ai Ai reacted by grabbing her rosary so she and Jed won’t hurt each other further.
“May sinabi siya na hindi di ko kinaya. 'Yon na nga lang ang nagibbigay sa ‘kin ng lakas. Pinalabas niya ko ng kwarto habang hawak ko yung rosary at nagtago ako sa kwarto ni Sofia (her daughter).”
From love to anger
Since then, Ai Ai’s love for the man she vowed to cherish forever disappeared.
“Napalitan 'yon ng pakiramdam kong galit at pagtataka kung bakit nakayanan kong lahat ang gawin sa akin nito.”
She admits Jed suddenly showed up at Salon de Manila and tried to talk to her.
“Kinulong niya ko sa banyo. Humingi ako ng tulong sa mga friends ko kasi may trauma ako sa kanya.”
The man she married, Ai Ai said in-between sobs, never reciprocated her love.
“Sa lahat ng nalaman ko, tingin ko hindi. Kahit kelan hindi,” she cried.
She apologized to herself and to her family.
Ai Ai told her children, “Sorry, kasi noon pa man talagang okay na ang pagmamahal nila. Okay na ang pagmamahal namin sa isa’t isa.”
All she wanted, Ai Ai went on, was to have someone she can spend the rest of her life with because her children are already grown-up.”
She is ashamed that the fairy tale she dreamt of never came true.
“Sa mga anak ko, kay Sof (Sofia), gusto no’n buong pamilya. Noon ko pa naman sinabi sa kanyang baka hindi yon para sa atin. Sorry.”
Divorce next
Ai Ai revealed that her lawyers are now taking care of the divorce papers and other legalities.
Despite everything, Ai Ai still sees the silver lining behind the clouds.
“Ang dasal ko noong hindi ko pa alam ang lahat ng totoo, ‘God, ipagtanggol mo naman ako. Ngayon, ang dasal ko thank you, God. Sobrang thank you. Feeling ko hindi Niya ako iniwan s araw-araw na ang dami kong nalaman na totoo.”
In a touching scene between mother and son, Sancho, Ai Ai’s son approached her and comforted her.
“Sorry, baby,” Ai Ai wailed when she saw her grown-up son.
All is not lost. Ai Ai still has her children to run to in times of trouble.
