another chance to do so when the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) launches the Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid's “Celebrity Ukay-Ukay” online.

Starting July 15, GMAKF will auction various items pre-owned by celebrities on the "Celebrity Ukay-Ukay" page on Ebay Philippines.

Among the items up for auction this  July: a one-of-a-kind autographed jersey from Chris Tiu,  Regine’s Prada purse, Ogie’s long-sleeved Randy Ortiz polo and Regine and Mel Tiangco’s  gowns.

Prices of these celebrity items vary. Pia Guanio's Swatch watch, for instance, will go on auction with a starting bid of P199 while Tim Yap's Louis Vuitton bag will start at less than P10,000.

GMAKF will put up seven items for auction every 10 days. The highest bidder at the end of the bidding period will be able to purchase the item. After the bidding period, seven new items will be put up for sale.

Although the auction is a Kapuso undertaking, GMAKF EVP and COO Mel Tiangco urged celebrities from the Kapamilya and Kapatid networks to donate items for the auction as well.

“This is open not only to GMA artists. It is open to all celebrities. Hindi pang-GMA ito because they also realize the purpose of what we do,” she said. In fact, the first two sets of auctions will include items from Kapamilya stars Kris Aquino and Sharon Cuneta.

Expanding scope

Mel explained that the re-launch of Ogie and Regine's “Celebrity Ukay-Ukay” online is the foundation's way of reaching a wider audience.

Although the “Celebrity Ukay-Ukay” at the World Trade Center last summer was a success (it earned P2.7 million), they know the set-up has limitations.

“We wanted to be able to sell fast and we wanted to be able to reach a younger set (with the online ukay-ukay),” Mel explained.

The online auction will also help expand GMAKF's Kapuso School Development (KSD) project, which is also the beneficiary of the ukay-ukay last summer.  KSD aims to build classrooms with water distribution and lavatory facilities for underserved schools in the country.

Each KSD-funded classroom costs P650,000.  Mel said their goal is to build at least 50 classrooms every year.

The online ukay-ukay will supplement funds raised by their annual fund-raising events: the Summer Heat Wave Bazaar and the pre-Christmas Noel Bazaar.

“We are going to make the ukay-ukay and auction exclusive for the school construction,” she added.
