'The Bottomline,' 'Star Confessions' win in 2011 Asian TV Awards

ABS-CBN’s “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” and TV5’s “Star Confessions” won at the recently-concluded 2011 Asian Television Awards held in Singapore on Thursday, December 8.

Late night talk show “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” bested big contenders such as “Talk Asia” of CNN Hong Kong, “The Euthanasia Debate” and “Being Gay: The Parent’s Story” of India, “Boka @ Mamak” of Malaysia and “Enna Nadakkuthu” and “It’s a Small World 2” of Singapore.

According to ABS-CBNNews, “The Bottomline” was commended particularly for its episode with Maguindanao Governor Toto Mangundadatu. Host Boy Abunda received the award in Singapore.

TV5’s “Star Confessions,” now “Real Confessions,” won the Best Theme Song award for its song “Ito Ang Buhay Ko,” composed by Boy Christopher Ramos. It bested “Christina and the Runaways” by KC Gan of Singapore, “Hambamu” by Edry Abdul Halim, “Footprints in the Sand” by Wu Yi Jian and Yise Luo and “A Time to Embrace” by Wu Jia hui and Cheryl Lee of Malaysia.

The Philippines won two awards out of seven nominations. Angel Aquino was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the TV drama “Magkaribal,” while Michael V. was nominated for Best Comedy Performance for GMA 7’s “Pepito Manaloto.”

TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy” and GMA 7’s “Mind Master” were nominated for Best General Entertainment award. “Lokomoko” of TV5 was also nominated for Best Comedy Program.
