Are all benefit shows put up in light of the Yolanda disaster for real?

“The Voice” third placer Janice Javier somewhat touched on the idea after she earned overnight success as contestant of the popular vocal talent search.

“Sobra na pong daming benefit shows. Wala naman pong masama doon. Ang sa akin lang, when it comes to earning as a performer, pakiramdam ko po na-Yolanda din kami,” she said in an interview at MCA office after she and three other “The Voice” finalists signed record and management contracts with the label.

Just to get artists to perform for free?

A music insider who asked not to be named told Yahoo Philippines that some show organizers may have been only using the opportunity from the Yolanda calamity to get the services of artists for free.

Javier, who is coming out with her solo debut album this March, only hopes that benefit shows related to the rehabilitation efforts of affected areas in Visayas are “all sincere.”

The singer, who’s turning 39 this year hopes to inspire other “big-sized” entertainers like herself to keep dreaming in spite of public prejudice on body figures and age.

The chance to shine

This former OFW’s album will contain her recorded versions of numbers she performed on “The Voice,” including John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All.”

“Sana po ma-inspire ko ‘yung mga tulad ko at marami pa sa amin ang mabigyan ng chance to shine.”

The other three artists MCA has signed up besides Javier are Klarisse De Guzman, Myk Perez and Paolo Onesa. Perez is releasing his acoustic album this January while Klarisse, runner-up to “The Voice” winner Mitoy Yonting and Paolo, will have theirs out by next month.
