'Tis the season of comebacks over at TV5.

Willie Revillame will be back 11:30 a.m. Jan. 26 for variety game show “Wowowillie.”So, too is another seasoned host, Edu Manzano, who will give insights on being a dedicated family man in the daily show “Good Morning Club” starting Jan. 21 (the other hosts are Christine Bersola-Babao, Chiqui Roa-Puno and Amy Perez).

And that’s just some of the new programs TV5 announced in a grand event dubbed “Go5!” at Resorts World Manila. The others are Joey de Leon’s “Hayop sa Galing”starting Jan. 26, the public service program “Rescues,” which pilots Jan. 26, the reality show “The Alabang Housewives”,” a game show on wheels (“Jeepney Jackpot”), a superhero drama (“Derek Ramsay’s “Kidlat”), a romance-drama (“Never Say Good-bye”) and a celebrity game show (“Game N Go”).

Since it’s the political season, the Kapatid network’s news department will air “Pagbabago 2013,” its coverage of the upcoming elections. For starters, it takes a look at powerful families on Feb. 3, 11 to 11:45 p.m.

The post-New Year’s day event that unveiled these shows last Jan. 15, had all the makings of a rousing start-of-the-year party. Dinner tables groaned with food. A full orchestra played on and on. The huge stage of the Newport Performing Arts Theater was aglow with a diorama-like backdrop of painted jeepneys standing side by side.

But the stars of the show were – who else – the Kapatid artists who said their piece and/or performed before their big boss, TV5 owner Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), the advertisers and members of the press.

Comedians Tuesday Vargas and Arnell Ignacio came in matching formal suits and swapped punch lines. Edu and Paolo Bediones traded jokes. Alice Dixson, radiant in her flaming red gown, shared the stage with Lucy Torres, who donned a glittery black number.

Gelli de Belen was seductive in a dark evening gown with plunging neckline.

News5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes looked business-like as she crossed the stage in her red blouse and black skirt.

Ryan Agoncillo, Wendell Ramos, brothers Phil and James Younghusband, Benjie Paras and Gerald Santos looked dapper in their formal attire.

The regional landscape

The network feels it has every right to celebrate, even in the regions.

“TV5 made a strong finish in the last quarter of 2012, as it overtakes GMA in six of the country’s major media markets as the new No. 2 channel of choice, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measure (TAM) all-week overnight data,” its press release states.

These media markets are Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos City, Davao.

Things also seem to be looking up in the regions.

Raul M. de la Cruz, head of Regional, Affiliate and Sports Operations crows that the network is already second to ABS-CBN in the provinces, thanks to a stronger signal and localized programs.

His team is looking at number one – or coming in a close second to ABS-CBN, which De la Cruz says is leading by 10 points.

“We will get five points more this year and another five points next year,” he stresses.

De la Cruz’plan is to come up with a barangay-based legal advice show where people can consult lawyers for their problems. Another project will help the provinces, like Davao, become more typhoon-ready.

The TV5 executive plans to launch local TV and radio shows with homegrown talents speaking in the native dialect. The network, he adds, will join local fiestas like Cebu’s Sinulog (live coverage is from sun-up to sundown), Iloilo’s Dinagyang, Baguio’s Panagbenga, Araw ng Dabaw, etc.

So expect to see your favorite Kapatid stars in the next big fiesta. And be sure to bring your notebook, a CD or any item they can sign their autographs on for you to look back to again and again.

Once you see them on TV or watch them on the big screen, you’ll be glad you have those keepsakes to keep those memories alive, fiesta after star-studded fiesta.
