Before the "Hannah Montana" star began selling millions of albums and holding big concert tours in and outside the US, Miley had her first taste of showbiz as a child actress in Billy Cyrus' TV series "Doc" and as baby Ruthie in Tim Burton's "Big Fish."
If in "Hannah Montana " Miley lives a secret double life as regular school girl Miley Stewart and pop star Hannah Montana, Miley in real life portrays two roles — that of an actress and singer. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus to country singer Billy Ray, Miley used to tag along with her dad during his performances and taping for "Doc." She started to realize her dream of becoming an actress when she was eight.
According to Thestar.com, Billy took his daughter to the Mirvish production of "Mamma Mia!" in 2001. Miley told Billy, "This is what I want to do, Daddy. I want to be an actress." Five years later, Miley bagged the lead role in "Hannah Montana," playing a bubbly, goofy school girl Miley Stewart who is secretly living as pop star Hanna Montana. Her role gave her instant fame, millions of fans, concert tours, top-selling albums and film contracts.
Miley has become a pop culture phenomenon as evident in her fast-increasing number of fans, various offers in Hollywood, endorsements and magazine features. Most girls can relate to Miley's role in "Hannah Montana," which most girls can easily relate to and dream of . Every girl, if not most, dreams of being a star even as they go to school like others their age do. Miley's funny, perky personality won the fans' hearts . Hannah Montana has become a big brand, spawning various merchandise such as bags, school supplies and clothings.
With the big success of "Hannah Montanna," Miley held the "Best of Both Worlds" concert tour where she performed as herself and her alter ego, "Hannah Montana." It turned into a concert film called "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds" in 2008. The series was adapted into a movie which stars Miley herself.
"Hannah Montana" first aired in Disney in March 2006 and had its fourth season finale last January. In an interview with "The Telegraph UK," Miley said ending "Hannah Montana" was kind of bittersweet. "It's like my security blanket, my comfort zone. I know that's where I'm going to be from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. I've always had the show to lean on, and to not have it to lean on in the future will be different for me, so who knows?," Miley said.
Moving on to becoming a more mature actress, Miley landed a role in the film "The Last Song" in 2010, based on Nicholas Sparks' novel. She stars alongside Liam Hemsworth who became her real-life boyfriend. They split up after a few months. Despite poor reviews, "The Last Song" earned more than $88 million at the worldwide box office. Miley didn't want to act as a singer in her films and wanted more challenge in her roles by playing someone other than a singer.
The former Disney star is set to make two films: "LOL: Laughing Out Loud" and "So Undercover." LOL is a remake of a French teen comedy where Miley plays a rebellious character, totally different from her perky role in "Hannah Montana." In "So Undercover," Miley plays a tough, street-smart hired by FBI as an undercover.
In her interview with "The Telegraph," Miley said she's bipolar in her acting choices for wanting to do a bit of everything. "One day I'm telling my mom, you know, I want to do an action movie and then I want to be doing comedy and then all different types of things. I get a little bored so hopefully I'll get a chance to do a little bit of everything," Miley said.
