Female Kapuso stars lead ‘Temptation Island’ remake

After months of speculation, Regal Films finally announced the official cast of the much-talked about remake of "Temptation Island," the 80s cult film classic by Joey Gosiengfiao.

Leading the cast are Kapuso stars Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Lovi Poe, and Marian Rivera.

A lot of names floated around as to the identity of the movie's lead actresses. Among them were Kapamilya stars Andi Eigenmann and Angelica Panginiban and GMA-7 actress Carla Abellana. Andi and Carla starred in Regal's Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12" last year.

Last week, Isabelle Daza was rumored to replace Heart, who reportedly backed out of the movie.

"No backing out. I don't know where that came from... I'm very excited for this movie. And ayun, masaya itong movie na ito," Heart told GMA News TV's "Tweebiz Insiders" in a taped interview, aired Wednesday, March 23.

For her part, Solenn told "Tweetbiz Insiders" that she'll undergo Filipino lessons to prepare for the movie, although the model-turned-actress said she will have a lot of English lines in the movie remake.

The 2011 remake will be helmed by Chris Martinez, the director of the hit comedies "Kimmy Dora" and "Here Comes the Bride." The playwright turned director also megged in 2003 "Temptation Island... Live," a straight play version of the cult classic which had an all-male cast.

According to 2007 report published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Gosiengfiao was planning a directorial comeback before he died of a heart attack. In the said report, director Jeffrey Jeturian said he suggested Martinez as a scriptwriter for the comeback.

Hailed as the master of Pinoy camp films, Gosiengfiao also directed the 80s movies "Katorse" and "Bata Pa Si Sabel," both remade into ABS-CBN soap operas.
