ABS-CBN, GMA-7 bag awards at New York Festivals

Two of the country's major television networks emerged as winners at the 2011 The New York Festivals International TV and Film Awards.

GMA-7's "Biyaheng Totoo" news campaign emerged as a Silver World Medal Winner for the Special Reports category. "Biyaheng Totoo," which aired on the news programs "24 Oras," "Saksi," and then QTV 11's "Balitanghali" before the 2010 presidential elections, is composed of ten short news features on 10 of the country's poorest provinces.

The Kapuso network's "Paraisong Uhaw" episode of the documentary program "I-Witness" and their "Lupang Hinirang (The Philippine National Anthem)" also won the Bronze World Medal in the Social Issues/Current Events and the Music Video categories, respectively.

The Born Expeditions finale of "Born to be Wild" received a Finalist Certificate in the Nature and Wildlife category.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN received three recognitions from the New York Festivals for their documentary program "Storyline." It got a Silver World Medal in the Biography/Profiles category, a Bronze World Medal in the Community Portraits category, and a Finalist Certificate in the Social Issues/Current Events category.

The Kapamilya network also received five other Finalist Certificates for the "Bloodbath in Manila" coverage which aired on "TV Patrol" (Coverage of Breaking News category), "I Survived" (Docudrama), the promotional spot "Altar" (Copywriting), and "Magkaribal" and "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" (Telenovelas).

The New York Festivals International TV and Film Awards, now on its 54th year, honors the world's best in television, film, radio, and advertising.
