SS501′s Park Jung Min revels in ‘flaming charisma’ image

In Korea, the title "flaming charisma" is often bestowed upon a member of an idol group widely considered to be the most attractive of the lot. It is a title often relished by those to whom it is given. If search trends are any indication, the most popular "flaming charisma" idol is Choi Minho of SHINee, although many other idols are often nicknamed "flaming charisma" celebrities, one of whom is SS501's Park Jung Min.

Jung Min, who recently began promotional activities for his first solo album, "Not Alone," has been called the "flaming charisma" of SS501 since the group's debut seven years ago. His trademark head tilt and all-out smile has helped him earn his own distinct image from Kim Hyun Joong, Heo Young Saeng, Kim Kyu Jong, and Kim Hyung Jun. Not surprisingly, Jung Min's outgoing personality, good looks, and strong voice have earned him a multitude of fans, most of whom have come out of the woodwork in the past few days in full support of "Not Alone" and its energetic yet orchestra-kissed title track, the first official solo single from any SS501 member.

Despite a hectic promotional schedule, Jung Min said in a recent interview that "there's no time to rest as a soloist, since I have to do everything on my own." He does his best to stay in shape, finding time to work out at a gym frequented by several of Korea's entertainment elite, including Super Junior, Kim Jong Kook, and fellow "flaming charisma" Minho of SHINee. The end result is a leaner, fitter Jung Min. Fans will notice that the first few scenes of his "Not Alone" music video show him executing a series of martial arts-style kicks designed to, as he puts it, "express a more masculine aspect of myself."

Jung Min has since done the rounds of music variety shows for "Not Alone," and hopes to tour at least five countries in support of the album. A new SS501 album is scheduled for release sometime in 2011, and Jung Min is willing to put on hold any further advancement in his career during that time.
